Therapeutic Response started as a family run business. When its original founders recognised the responsibility of being the first responders to people in their most vulnerable moments and the importance of setting the first impression of mental health services.
Therapeutic Response was launched wanting to bring a distinctly different approach to the industry. To lead with trauma informed, therapeutic and least restrictive care. We do not see ourselves as simply transport; we are a specialist mental health service on wheels.
After a long working partnership together, HTG-UK took over the company in 2024 with the aim of continuing to nurture compassionate and safe journeys.
The service is still led by one of its founding owner, Dr Laura Lovatt, Clinical Psychologist, ensuring expert clinical oversight to every part of the service.
We are proud to be affiliated with the Restraint Reduction Network and our overall aim is to only ever use physical intervention if absolutely necessary and the last resort.
What we offer
The service is designed for people aged 12 and over who are experiencing mental health difficulties, or those with additional co-morbid conditions, such as a learning disability, neuro-diverse diagnosis or cognitive impairment that would indicate the need for a more secure and supportive ambulance transfer.
We are a trauma-informed company, which means we are sensitive to the adversity people have experienced in their lives when we are planning their travel. It means that we also take a empathetic understanding towards behaviour that might challenge.
We accept referrals from ICBs, local authorities and accept private bookings also.
We are the exclusive providers of mental health transport for the NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board and NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board.
Ambulance Service
Therapeutic Response Ambulance Service offers transport and therapeutic escort services. We are able to take people held under various legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Court of Protection and Forensic orders. We also serve informal patients from and in between various settings. This includes transport from home to and from hospitals, between mental health wards, and to alternative medical centres for treatment not provided in their current setting and from police custody. This can include repatriation of patients from outside of their home county.
Therapeutic Response Ambulance Service also offer escorted transport for patients who require an enhanced level of support or observation when visiting and attending medical or legal appointments.
‘Bed Watch’ – Therapeutic Escorts and Observation
We are able to offer supportive supervision to those in hospital settings with a higher level of need that could benefit from therapeutic observation.
